2: Half of Villa’s first team defenders are the age of 30 or over and of those, all have been relegated at least once.

Premier League Stars Urged to Sue Social Media Platforms Following Racist Abuse

A lawyer has told Premier League stars like Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Tammy Abraham that they may need to sue social media platforms to finally bring an end to horrific racist abuse online.

The trio have both been targeted by vile comments after missing penalties in recent weeks, with Manchester United set to meet Twitter executives to try and find a solution to the problem.

However, a lawyer who specialises in online abuse cases has told the Telegraph that both Twitter and Instagram are unlikely to implement important changes voluntarily, adding that the players may need to pursue legal action to force the platforms to change.

Iain Wilson, of Brett Wilson LLP, said: “It is unlikely they will ever do enough unless and until the law forces them to do so – either by someone in Pogba’s position bringing a test claim to establish a precedent or by Parliament legislating.”

The belief is that, by allowing users to sign up without verifying their identification beforehand, neither Twitter nor Instagram has done enough to sufficiently protect users from suffering racist abuse.

FBL-ENG-PR-EVERTON-ARSENAL

Damian Collins, the chairman of Parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee, added that ID checks should become mandatory online.

“It can’t be right that cowards and racists can hide behind the anonymity of social media to attack people, often using bogus accounts,” Collins said.

However, Adam Gray, co-founder of social media management consultancy Digital Leadership Associates, insisted that such a procedure could be a violation of human rights, as users often choose to make anonymous accounts to avoid putting any of their personal information online.

Gray also added that companies would be reluctant to implement ID checks as it would likely reduce the number of users on their website, which would ultimately lead to a drop in income for the likes of Twitter and Instagram.

With the next move uncertain, both United and Chelsea are eager to meet with Twitter, and anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out also want to be part of discussions, in an attempt to put an end to the horrific harassment online.

PSG Ready Surprise £100m Bid for Wilfried Zaha as Direct Replacement for Neymar

Paris Saint-Germain could test Crystal Palace’s resolve with a stunning £100m bid for Wilfried Zaha, as Barcelona and Real Madrid step up their chase to bring Neymar back to La Liga.

Zaha made the Eagles aware of his desire to leave south London during the summer in favour of European football, with top-flight duo Everton and Arsenal both failing with bids to sign the Ivorian after a summer of uncertainty.

Now, with Neymar looking increasingly likely to leave the French capital, the Ligue 1 champions have reportedly earmarked Zaha as the man they want to replace him with, as the Mirror claims a £100m bid is being prepared to offer the 26-year-old the Champions League football he so desperately craves.

It’s added in the report that PSG are sending a delegation to London this week in order to thrash out the details, while in the background the aforementioned La Liga duo go head-to-head over Neymar.

The main reason for Palace not selling Zaha during the English window was that their valuation was not met, but that will not be the case if PSG are indeed prepared to stump £100m.

Wilfried Zaha

However, this story strongly contradicts other reports from across Europe that state Paulo Dybala is PSG’s number one target to replace Neymar.

PSG sporting director Leonardo is currently ironing out the Argentine’s troublesome image right issues, with the club heavily linked to stay down the South American route and bring Dybala to France.

That said, Palace boss Roy Hodgson did concede he would be powerless to sell Zaha to a foreign club, although he would be reluctant to do so as it would deal a huge blow to the quality of the squad – with nobody able to replace him until January at the earliest.

Whether PSG have both players in mind is unlikely but certainly not impossible, given their supreme spending power,. Whatever transpires, though, will need to occur ahead of the transfer deadline, which closes in just over a weeks’ time.

Rangers: Twitter Reacts to ‘Drab’ Performance as Lacklustre Gers Limp Past St Mirren

Rangers laboured to a 1-0 victory away to St. Mirren on Sunday, earning the points thanks to a stunning Borna Barisic goal.

Nevertheless, it was a difficult watch for the fans of Steven Gerrard’s side. They looked short of match-fitness and made numerous errors, though the win could well have been more straightforward after countless chances went begging.

The frustration set in barely two minutes into the contest, with Jermaine Defoe’s poor attempt at a finish sending the ball behind for a goal-kick after the striker had been slipped through one-on-one.

The blame was laid at Defoe’s feet for that miss, though he cannot be faulted for failing to take advantage of deliveries from out wide. Gers’ crosses were far too high and the ex-Tottenham Hotspur man is far too, well, small.

It’s not just his lack of height that made Defoe ill-suited to this game, however. He’s simply not aggressive enough to cope with St. Mirren’s approach to defending, but half-man-half-red-card Alfredo Morelos certainly has the necessary vigour.

Aside from an early miss and the bullying of Defoe, there was very little to write home about in the first quarter of the game.

And then – despite barely stepping over the halfway line – the hosts hit the crossbar and had a shout for a penalty. In fact, they had a very good shout for a penalty…

Jonathan Obika’s cross clattering the crossbar may well have been a highlight for St. Mirren supporters, but a low point will surely be the officials’ decision not to give them a spot-kick.

The half petered out thereafter and big predictions were made about how the second 45 would go…

It didn’t take too long for the first of those three Rangers goals – as foreseen by Yasin – to be scored as a sumptuous free-kick from Borna Barisic gave Steven Gerrard’s men the lead.

Looks like one fan had spoken too soon…

To be fair to Curtis, the Croat had been a ghost for much of the encounter, but that whipped effort from the dead-ball was glorious.

Sweet relief! Rangers were on their way to the three points courtesy of a wonderful strike, but some supporters were struggling to believe it…

The Glaswegians should have had a two-goal cushion when Defoe went through on the ‘keeper once more, yet the 36-year-old was unable to round off the move.

He was fortunate to get the opportunity, however, after appearing to tug the St Mirren defender when breaking beyond the backline. Still, some fans thought it ludicrous to suggest it was a foul…

Both sides went in search of a second score of the game as the finish-line came into sight, but their respective searches ended up fruitless.

A win for Rangers and they were sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Sergio Ramos Makes Surprisingly Well Timed Neymar Remark Because of Course He Does

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos appears to have tried to help his side conclude a deal for Neymar by publicly insisting that the Paris Saint-Germain winger is one of the greatest players in the world.

Los Blancos are battling with Barcelona to try strike a deal for the Brazilian, who is keen to leave France and return to La Liga as soon as possible.

FBL-QAT-FRA-PSG-TRAINING

PSG’s high asking price of €222m has slowed progress on the transfer but, speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid (via Marca), Ramos made no secret of his belief in Neymar.

When asked for his feeling on the winger, Ramos simply said: “Neymar is a top player, among the top three in the world.”

However, he did go on to insist that Real are strong enough without the PSG star, adding that there are plenty of options for Los Blancos going forward.

Sergio Ramos,Gareth Bale

“Talking about signings is a lack of respect for this great team. These things are always talked about at Real Madrid and even more so when the transfer window is open. Players must be cold with these things,” Ramos added.

“We’re going to move forward with those that we have. We all need to be connected. Reintegrating players like [Gareth] Bale or James [Rodriguez] is another solution.”

It is believed that Real are in pole position to sign Neymar, thanks to their ability to offer a more appealing player-plus-cash bid than Barcelona can.

FBL-EUR-C1-BELGRADE-PSG

Rodriguez, Bale, Luka Jovic and Keylor Navas have all been suggested as potential parts of the deal, whilst 90min understands that Karim Benzema could also be used as a makeweight in their attempts to sign Neymar.

Los Blancos are even thought to be preparing the winger’s unveiling ceremony, but there is still a long way to go with this one. The lengthy saga has taken up the majority of the summer, and it shows no signs of stopping just yet.

Transfer Rumours: Livakovic to Man Utd, Butland to Norwich, Fred to Fiorentina and More

The English transfer window might have long-since closed, but if you thought for a second that would stop the speculation surrounding Premier League clubs potential dealings from mounting, then you’re as naive as Norwich’s defensive line.

On top of all that, there’s still almost a week left of the European window, so there is plenty of transfer nonsense to be getting on with.

Here’s your daily roundup of everything you need to know.

Southampton and Tottenham Eyeing QPR Starlet

Eberechi Eze,Connor Roberts

Southampton have made recruiting young players the backbone of their transfer policy under Ralph Hasenhuttl so far, with the average age of their three summer recruits (no, we’re not counting Danny Ings) just 21 years old.

And according to the Sun, it’s another 21-year-old who could be their next arrival, as QPR midfielder Eberechi Eze – who has already made as many as 90 senior appearances in the Championship and League One despite his age – has been added to a list of January targets.

Tottenham are also believed to be interested, however, so this one won’t come (wait for it) Eze (I’ll get my coat) for the Saints.

Manchester United Want Croatian Star as David De Gea Replacement

FBL-EUR-C3-ANDERLECHT-DINAMO-ZAGREB

Another Sun special for you lucky devils. The claim this time is that Manchester United are putting contingency plans in place for the potential departure of David De Gea, and see £20m-rated Dinamo Zagreb stopper Dominik Livakovic as a potential replacement.

The Spaniard has entered the final year of his deal at Old Trafford, and could seal a pre-contract move away as early as January if United fail to tie him down before then.

In that event, they would need a reasonably cheap alternative, and they have scouted 24-year-old Livakovic with a view to him being their man. The report also notes that Liverpool were interested in him as an understudy to Alisson, but were priced out of a deal and opted for Adrian instead.

Galatasaray to Offer Mohamed Elneny Arsenal Exit

FBL-EUR-C3-ARSENAL-TRAINING

In what may be the most predictable move in the history of transfers, Mohamed Elneny could be on the move to Galatasaray, with Unai Emery seeing no part for him in his plans.

Elneny made just 17 appearances for the Gunners last season, a large chunk of which coming during the early part of Arsenal‘s Europa League campaign. He has been left out of the squad for each of their opening three Premier League matches – with Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Dani Ceballos, Matteo Guendouzi and even the emerging Joe Willock all preferred for midfield places.

The Mirror say that Galatasaray have read the situation, and are prepared to sanction a move, as are Turkish rivals Fenerbahce. His wages have proved an issue so far, but it seems far from unlikely that a move will be concluded before the closure of the European window next week.

Norwich Interested in Jack Butland

Jack Butland

Remember Jack Butland? The one time England keeper, relegated from the Premier League with Stoke City back in May 2018 and stuck in Championship purgatory ever since?

Well he’s started the season terribly, with the Potters taking just a single point from their opening five matches, but is still being priced out of an exit by Stoke, who the Sun say are demanding £25m for his signature.

Norwich are reportedly prepared to pay as much as £15m, so it remains to be seen if their dismal form keeps up until January and forces the Championship side into selling for a reduced price.

Fiorentina Identify Fred as Midfield Target

Fred

Serie A side Fiorentina are reported in Italy to be keen on out-of-favour Manchester United star Fred, as they look to add to their midfield options in the final week of the transfer window.

The Brazilian joined United for over £50m last summer, but he is yet to nail down a first team place, and hasn’t featured at all for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side so far this season.

As per Calcio Mercato, Fiorentina see the former Shakhtar man as the ‘perfect fit’ and could test United’s dwindling resolve in the next week or so.

Celtic: Twitter Reacts as Vakoun Bayo Fires Dominant Hoops to Victory Over Hearts

Celtic picked up an impressive 2-0 win over AIK on Thursday, and they continued their momentum in the Scottish Premiership with a crucial 3-1 win over Hearts on a ludicrously warm day at Celtic Park.

To freshen things up, manager Neil Lennon opted to make a number of changes to his starting lineup, the most notable of which came in the form of new signing Fraser Forster, who returned to the club on loan following five years with Southampton.

Forster wasn’t the only big change as, with Odsonne Edouard rested, 22-year-old Vakoun Issouf Bayo was handed his first start in attack.

It was an electric start to the game, with both sides throwing everything at the other in the sunshine at Paradise. However, it was Celtic who opened the scoring, thanks to some resilient work from Bayo.

The striker’s scrappy finish might have gone down as an own goal in the end, but Celtic fans certainly didn’t care.

Celtic held on to their 1-0 lead at the half-time interval, and they made it 2-0 soon after the break thanks to Callum McGregor’s stunning strike in the 54th minute.

The Hoops were cruising, and fans knew it.

Hearts had absolutely no answer, with Craig Levein’s side looking completely out of their depth against the Hoops.

When Bayo bagged his side’s third from close range, Celtic fans were partying, whilst Hearts’ supporters began looking for the nearest exit.

Hearts were given a glimmer oh hope left on when they were awarded a penalty following a clumsy challenge by Scott Brown, but Conor Washington’s penalty was well saved by Forster.

However, the excitement didn’t last long as Washington managed to convert the rebound. Game on..?

Game over. Celtic never looked threatened by Hearts, even though the late penalty scare gave them something to think about.

Lennon’s men are right back to the top of the table, but can they stay there?
